Hi,

I have seen recently several submissions (which were accepted), where the Digital Copy (when on DVD) was removed from the Discs list.

Is there a new rule or specific reason to make such change? I am not debating what is better, just trying to understand if something triggered the change, so i know for the future.

Thanks.

The rules state to "Use the Features check box as follows" and when you go down the page you will see that includes "Digital Copy".

You can find that information here: http://invelos.com/dvdpro/contributions/Rules.aspx?display=discextras

There's no new rule.  Studios tend to drop the digital copy after a period of time.  If a release originally came with a DC then the DC option should remain checked in the master database.

I believe that the data being removed is from the Disc Info section since I've seen that happening a lot lately.

Gotcha, guess I misunderstood.  Was there ever a ruling/determination if it should be removed from the Disc ID section?

My initial post shows the section of rules that tell us how to handle Digital Copy data.

As far as the Disc Info - that section doesn't handle this data well. When you click on "Add Disc" all that gets entered is "Digital Copy" in the "Description" filed. "Disc ID" isn't read and something like "[]" is all that shows up.

And therefore it doesn't need to be there. The "Digital Copy" checkbox is enough.

I don't think it's as simple as that and currently, the digital copy checkbox doesn't tell you if the DC is disc based (Windows, iTunes) or code based (UV, iTunes, etc).  However, the rules currently state to add disc information for each disc.

I am in agreement with Rdodolak. If the disc is removed from the list, there is now way to know where the DC comes from. It is true that all latest releases have codes and no disc for DC, but we have to cater to the past also.

At the end it may not really matter. More submissions with the disc removed were accepted, but it seems we do not have a clear rule about it.

Supposedly, Ultraviolet rights are "permanent" once claimed and registered in the Ultraviolet vault. Only time will tell if this is true, or at least trending that way.

It was a silly unneeded "rule change", like most are, like the new Capitalization feature... talk about another fail....

Funny to see contributors scramble to up their contribution totals over silly changes.

I liked how it was, when you knew the DC was in fact a disc.  Like others have pointed out, if it was listed in the Disc Information you knew it was Disc based.  Not sure what good it is removing it, as if you didn't like it in your local it was really F***ing simple to remove.

Agree, but the digital copy redemption does expire at some point and once that happens the studios tend to drop the DC from newer copies although the UPC may still be the same.  Since we're talking about digital copies, it would be nice to know what the expiration date of a digital copy is although sometimes the studios may extend the expiration date.

I swore there was a discussion on the capitalization rule, i.e. Stand Up Guys, but I can't seem to find it.  I recently noticed an update was submitted just so the capitalization rule can update the title.

So it seems changes are being contributed just for the sake of contributing ...

Quote:
Updated title capitalization done by an automated Invelos contribution filter ... but this particular rule, and the Capitalization Tool provided by Invelos, doesn't leave any wiggle room. Heck: the change is done automatically by Invelos: it's a filter...
