Recently I stumbled over a guy lying in the contribution notes.

What Do I mean:
He copies cast and crew from another profile and then states "Cast&Crew from actual credits".

In the last case
• the credits did not contain role names for the main crew; they were corrected without any source documentation
• valid cross links were simply lost
• birth years were used without any documentation
• uncredited cast was imported without documentation (I assume from IMDB)
With other contributions the same person contributed similar crap...

When I vote no to the contribution he resubmits it - if I'm lucky he corrected the mistakes, I pointed out. In other cases he simply corrects the contribution notes.

What can be done against such manners?

I don't feel it to be my job to check and document the contribution of guys who are to lazy to do it themselves.

Can we prevent proven liars from contributing?

"Cast&Crew from actual credits" unfortunately happens to be the standard description used to dump IMDb-mined data into the database - unfortunately, that happens quite a lot...

This. If we are confident that data was mined from a third party and submitted with a falsified source in the notes, we will take action immediately.

And once these get accepted they're often copied over to other profiles that were better off before.

At least he cares about Cast and Crew. In Germany, they add dozens of uncredited publisher people to the cast list.

And you would have to take action against 90% of your contributors.

I play it safe. I only use cast/crew from existing profiles. Sometimes there are issues and sometimes they don't match if I look at multiple. I always try to pick the one that looks most complete. At least they've been "approved" by someone. If I get movies that don't exist in the DB, which I have come across several and have two I'm working on now in a 10 movie box set. I leave cast/crew empty on the initial submission and add it in later if/when I have the time, if someone doesn't get to it before me. I figure it's better to have the empty stub with cover scans than to have nothing at all.

I had intended to mine the data from IMDB, but found it was not allowed, so I don't do it, then I don't have to lie about it.

I wish every other contributor was as conscientious.

Here's a tip. Mine the data from IMDb but use CastCrewCheck to verify / correct the data against the actual credits before contributing. See link in my signature.

This does not work (at least in the cases I complained here), since the IMDB lists different actors and crew members than actually credited. I don't know if this intentionally, but some of the differences really look like paperactors - or whatever the correct analogy to papertowns is

Sure it does. It's just a bit more work. If you feel it's better to start from scratch, GsyCastCrew is another option.
