I have noticed the majority of the Sesame Street DVD's i own state Sesame Street in the title. When i search for them on MANY sites to purchase they all say "Sesame Street:.. then the title such as "Sesame Street: Big Bird Gets Lost" or "Sesame Street: Learning about Numbers".. so when i tried to add "Sesame Street" to a title to make them go with the others i own i immediately got a no vote stating that this person owns many movies and "Sesame Street" isnt part of the title.. (This isn't part of the "Elmo's World" DVD series..  So which is correct. I count 31 titles in my collection that have "Sesame Street" in the title.. Do this all need to be changed with it removed?? I like that "Sesame Street" is in the title much like VeggieTales and Wiggles DVD's are.. Thanks..

The Contribution Rules tell us to take the title from the front cover. What other sites are listing and what someone else owns is totally irrelevant. If Sesame Street is part of the title on the front cover it should be listed, if it's not then it should not be listed.

Check out the contribution rules on Titles here.

Sesame Street is part of the title. States this on the front cover but not the DVD spine..  The part i was questioning was how to have these contributed the same. Totally dumb to have half contributed one way, half another..

I disagree that "Sesame Street" is part of the title. IMHO it is a logo - a street sign symbol - which contains not only the words "Sesame Street" but also the numbers 123.

If anyone is interested - one of the DVDs in question is UPC 828768411599. The current title is "Elmo's Potty Time" and the change contributed was "Sesame Street: Elmo's Potty Time".

Edit: The Overview lists the title on this particular DVD as "Elmo's Potty Time".

If in this case "Sesame Street" is the name of a collection of DVDs, entry in the Edition field would be appropriate per the rules.

so over 70 titles are incorrect in the database. These are just the Sesame Street titles alone.  Mind you i wasnt the first one to enter one of these titles.. same goes for all the Wiggles DVD's, VeggieTales DVD's.. All these titles are "incorrect" and have the series listed followed by the title of the specific DVD..  to have half contributed one way and less than half another seems confusing..

18 Elmo's World titles contributed in database as "Elmo's World:...(title of DVD)".. A WHOPPING 151 VeggieTales titles contributed as "VeggieTales: (title of DVD)" So according to this thread these are all contributed WRONG??  The VeggieTales series DVD's are the same as Sesame Street..   I am just looking for a way to have them listed and grouped together without using excessive tags throughout my collection. Or having them all just in my local collection.. Having these kids DVD series with the show name in title makes this really simple..

"Sesame Street" is IMHO a valid title and should be used before the title of the episode.

With this argumentation we would end up with:
The King of

... and with a registered Trademark:
The World's Fastest

Where is the line between text and logo?

I don't think, this brings us on a road I want to go.

The title is on the cover.

This argument reminds me of the thread we had when the Masters of Horror TV series was first released on DVD. They released one episode at a time. And did similar. The argument went on for pages... ending in using the title of the series in the title. I agreed then that title of the series belonged in the title field... and I still do.

Just to be clear - on this particular contribution I initially voted "no" based on my understanding of the rules. But, I changed my vote to "yes" because I felt brimac5477 made a compelling argument and I lock Title data locally.

I take offense to your other comment - becasue I disagree I lack common sense and am nit picking?

Feel free to disagree but that doesn't mean that my opinion isn't valid or based on thoughtful consideration.

Sorry, I didn't intend to insult you or become personally.

I tend to generalize - my bad - and do not distinguish who represents which opinion or who made which statements. Out of the discussions around here, where I often have the feeling that a reasonable amount of arguments come out of the necessity to be against, against whatever the issue is, I tend to overreact. Combined with my limited abilities in the english language, this is not the best idea ever, sorry.

In this case I felt the argumet with the 123 on the street singn as nit picking. I immediately remembered the Kingo of Queens cover, and I jumped at it. Sorry, no hard feelings, nothing personal!

i dont think it had anything to do with your common sense..You are a great member of this awesome program!!  If it was wrong (and i thought it very well could be) i wondered why all these other TV series (esp. kids series that i mentioned) were all contributed this way. I though it was nit picking too but you did change your vote after we messaged each other. In reality i just wanted others opinions as to how these should be contributed..  And wanted them all the same in the database.(my computer had crashed once before and i had to use my online collection..its a long story.. i should backup my DVD's..)  I think i got great feedback from everyone!!
