I need some help in understanding how to properly structure a box set profile for a TV series which contains separate cases and individual cover art for its contents. I have tried to duplicate similar series collections but my submission was rejected. I want to understand where things went wrong and how to fix it.

To be specific, I created a profile for the Puella Magi Madoka Magica complete series boxset (upc=816546020248)

This series consists of 12 episodes over 3 discs housed in 2 HD slim keep cases with unique cover art for each case. A photo from the publisher of the boxset contents for reference is at http://madokamagicausa.com/product/AOA-1204-Asset-Pic-lrg.jpg I created one profile for each case with cover art scans and then added them as contents to the boxset.
  • Puella Magi Madoka Magica Disc 1 & 2
  • Puella Magi Madoka Magica Disc 3

  • I then submitted the boxset and individual disc profiles as contributions. The boxset was approved and accepted, but the contents of the boxset were declined with the message: "The UPC/EAN of the contributed cover scan does not match the profile's UPC/EAN."

The contents of the boxset did not have an additional UPC/EAN, and the profiles were submitted as Disc ID. The front and back scans do not have individual barcodes. I believe that the discs are repressings (with identical content, but different cover art and possibly different disc labels) of three individual releases prior to inclusion in the box set. I do not have those releases to compare.

I had been looking at a few additional profiles prior to uploading my contribution to try to understand how to restructure my profile to be accepted. When I look at other TV series boxsets and/or movie collections, I see indiivdual profiles listed for individual discs in the release, for instance the recently-released "Doctor Who: Tom Baker: Complete Season One", which consists of one multi-disc HD keep case and slipcover, I see 6 child profiles in the box with duplicated cover art for each item in the collection. The individual discs in this collection are not available for retail separately.  I would like my set to be constructed in this way, but with unique cover art for either the individual discs or cases within the slipbox.

Based on the feedback from the reviewer, I do not know if the problem was in how I created the profiles or how I submitted the contributions. I did submit the child profiles separately, because the DVD profiler desktop program did not appear to select the child profiles when submitting the box. I put comments about this in the submission.

Could someone please provide a simple how-to of creating and submitting a multi-disc profile of this type? Neither the app nor the rules provide clear guidance on how and in what order to create this type of profile. Thanks!

... we don't create profiles for cases. Only for discs.

If there are more than one disc in one case, the cover art has to be duplicated for all of the profiles. All disc level profiles are linked to the main profile (season profile, if the season has an UPC, series profile if there are no season UPCs).

    This does not matter.

Mechanically, how do I make this happen? I feel like one mistake I made was in how I submitted the profiles separately from the box set. What I did was create a separate stand-alone profile and then add them to the box set on the box set contents tab. The contribute profile feature did not seem to include the child profiles with the box set. Do I submit these separately, or did I fail to properly attach the child profiles?

To make sure I understand, what I need to do is create separate profiles for each disc (disc 1, disc 2, and disc 3) and associate the respective scanned cover art to the disc. Then I will need to associate them to the box set and...contribute just the box set? or all of the individual discs as well?

    That's the correct way.

    Yes, that works as intended.

Do I submit these separately, ...

Yes, You submit the children one for one independent from the parent profile. In parallel you (re)submit the parent profile to get the linkage (Box Set Content) into the online data base.

Thanks for your help. I'll work on revising the child profiles later and resubmit.

I noticed that some of the parent profiles for TV series (e.g., the box set) include the disc IDs for the individual child profiles. Is this required in addition to the disc IDs on the individual child profiles?

I've never read such a mischief before.

    Of cause we do.
For example a boxset that contains different movies with their own cases!
Than the box set is the main profile and each movie a child profile

Yes. In case of a TV Series the disc IDs should be entered in the box set profile. But not in a non TV Series box set

Correct, there are profiles where it's a gift set or something rather unique and you get a bunch of swag or a unique case. I've seen profiles where the main profile is the entire set and the movie/tv series is a child profile.

I don't think any are in the database, but I can remember a few years ago when Best Buy (I believe) offered TV Series in a metal lunchbox.
So to properly profile the lunchbox one would have to profile the Lunchbox as the main profile and the tv series contained within as a child profile.

    Like this.

Yes, the rules requre the parent profile for TV series (seasons) to be comprehensive (including full cast, crew and disc information for the complete season/series). The children are optional.
